Save The Ocean

Save our ocean!

We were 2 months in Jericoacoara, Brazil to windsurf. When we went to the lagoon we found a place right outside the main streets full of plastic. My friends said yes to join a beach clean up, and it was a nice thing to do together between freestyle sessions. We hope for a cleaner ocean and that we find a solution to all the plastic pollution. Take action and do a beach clean up at your beach=)

“Lovely Holiday” – New Video

Beatrice used to be one of the tourists that would come to Jeri to just enjoy the caipirinha’s and watch the windsurfers sail into the sunset. Until one day she was very curious to find out what the fuss was about this windsurfing and why these windsurfers would spend hours and hours on the water. She gave it a try and loved it! Now she’s trying to convince her friend Magdalena to give it a go as well. Magdalena really loves coffee so it could be hard to get her on the water. This is the story of 2 tourists trying a new sport, and before they know it they fall in love with it. And…. ACTION!

This year again Sarah-Quita Offringa met up with Oda Johanne on her yearly trip to Brasil. It was another amazing two weeks sailing at the lagoon, Jeri and Maceio. The cherry on top were two days of really fun swell in Jeri. Filming for “Lovely Holiday” was probably one of the most fun sessions in Maceio. For an hour we were sailing in our dresses and hats without harnesses trying to synchronize our moves. It was almost impossible because the waves in Maceio don’t come in one line.

So you may have noticed that our synchro shots are not so synchro! We also learned that backslaps after a failed forward are brutal without a harness. Other highlights of the trip were Magdalena (Sarah-Quita’s alter ego on the water) launching into her first double forwards, and Oda pushing to new heights on her pushloops on the big wave days! Brazil delivered once again!

Report from Brazil and Oda Johanne´s Windsurf Festival 2018

“Oda Johanne´s Windsurf Festival” for the 2nd time at Møvik, Larkollen.

Saturday the 15th of September, the sun was out and the burgers were on the BBQ. Around 200 people showed up at the festival area and 68 windsurfers joined the windsurf clinic we had these two days. The sailors were divided into four different groups depending on their level.

Thanks to all of you for coming, and sharing hours on the water together. It was for sure a lot to organize and not much sleep the weeks before the event, but I guess it was all worth it when this was the outcome.

It was awesome to have my friend and the best windsurfer in the world, Sarah-Quita Offringa from Aruba, to come to Norway this year again. Thank you Magdalena! (SQ´s new nickname). The next question is, how can I trick her to come back again next year? Any ideas are more than welcome =)

I want to give a special thanks to Håkon Skorge and Gard Langseth who did an awesome job as instructors together with Sarah-Quita. Gard was teaching windsurfing to the beginner group. It was cool to see them being able to sail that well after just 2 days of practice. Big respect to all of you!

This event could never happen without the huge help from our parents, siblings, cousin and friends. Thank you! A special thanks to my dad who drove 4 different trailers back and forth, and my grandmother who is 90 years old and made “Norwegian Vafler” 20 hours during the weekend. That´s totally cool! I hope I will be like her in 61 years from now…

Most of all, I love the Norwegian windsurfing spirit that shows how much we love the sport. On Sunday the forecast was predicting rain and a lot of wind. The rain arrived, but the wind came late. Despite all that, people were on the water windsurfing the whole day until it was too dark. Happy and tired!

Mikael Linder (Into Fire & Water) who is a top photo/videographer from Varberg, took his time to come all the way from Sweden. Thanks for that, and looking forward to seeing you back in Lejet soon! Check out the photos he took in the album below.

Big thanks to the festival sponsors for your great support: Jatak, Carlsen Fritzøe, Maxim Norge, Kiwi Rygge, Srf,Sno&Sk8 and Skiogsurf.no. =)

Next question is: Do you want to join the festival in 2019? Should we do it again…?

Right after the festival, Sarah-Quita, Håkon, Eva Wyss and I went on a road trip in Norway. First to Stavanger and then to Lofoten. Stay tuned for the video coming soon… I can easily say that the weeks in Lofoten were the most interesting time I´ve had in a long time.

Now I´m currently in Brazil, my 2nd home, for the winter training. I´m competing in the WindJeri freestyle and wave competition these days, and we´ve had great days so far. I´m ready for the final in both freestyle and waves tomorrow. Still unreal to have won the wave single elimination yesterday with all the great windsurfing girls here. Most of all, I was just happy to finally have the chance to go for pushloops in a heat on starboard tack. It all came together with ramps and wind at the same time =) Tomorrow we will do the final in the double elimination, and I can not wait to see Sarah-Quita going for the double forward loops… =) “Magdalena” is on fire!

“Behind the scenes” of how we train freestyle windsurfing

Join me on a day of training in the lagoon with my friends. It´s a fun ride on the buggy through sand dunes to get there. This video shows you “behind the scenes” of how we train freestyle windsurfing together. Pushing hard, crashing harder, and finally we succeed! This is the 4th episode of “My South American Diary”.
