PWA World Cup in Pozo and Fuerteventura
Wind, wind and more crazy wind! Can it be windier during a contest? No, I don´t think so. After the World Cup in Portugal I signed up for my first port tack wave World Cup in Pozo. I flew down from Norway to Gran Canaria without knowing what to expect. I have not sailed much with wind from the right side in waves, and arriving 1 day before the contest I took it as a learning week. My new 3.0 Severne Blade sail and Starboard UltraKode 76 litre arrived just before the contest. With wind gusting 51 knots I had to compete on 3.0 for the first time of my life. A few times I have sailed 3.6, but I normally hold on to my 4.0 until 40 knots while being on my freestyle gear. But in Pozo that would be impossible, IMPOSSIBLE! Day one of the contest was extremely windy and we started the first heats.
I was up against wave sailor Sarah Hilder from the UK. She has some really good wave ride skills, so I thought I would not have much chance to win with my lack of wave experience. But to my surprise, I manage to land backloops on port tack in this wind and some forwards to fill in the jumps. With some okey wave rides I won the heat.
In the contest, we would be judged with 2 jumps and 2 waves. Heat duration was 14 minutes long. A wave heat felt super relaxing compared to freestyle heats with 8 moves for 7 minutes. I was really enjoying the contest sailing but lost in the 2nd round against the winner and multiple Wave World Champion Daida Moreno. With no ranking, I knew I would have to sail against the best ones in the first rounds. I put together a solid heat with forwards and backloops, but still had no chance against the wave Queen Daida. In the double elimination, I won the two next heats and lost in the 3rd round against Lina Erpenstein with a heat I was not very proud of. I ended up on a 9th place, which was way better than what I could dream of ahead of the contest with 24 riders. A great experience and I will come back next year again to raise my level in the waves!
After the World Cup in Pozo, Sarah-Quita and I took the ferry over to Fuerteventura and got ready for the main thing; the freestyle World Cup.
We started the competition and finished one single elimination. I ended up on a 3rd place with a very close heat losing the final spot in the last seconds to Maaike. It was crazy windy and gusty, and we did not have a very good heat missing two moves. I was almost happy to end on 3rd place in the single so I could first try to defend my 3rd place and be ready and “warm” for the fight for the 2nd place in the next double. But somehow the wind never showed up again and we had to stay with this result. So for me, it was 3rd place in Fuerteventura and 3rd overall in the PWA Freestyle World Cup. This year was a close battle for 2nd place. Super motivated to push harder and start the training for the next season. Congrats to Sarah-Quita Offringa, Maaike Huvermann and Arrianne Aukes for 1st, 2nd and 4th place. You are Legends and it’s always cool to compete with legends! The final day of the Freestyle at the 2018 Fuerteventura PWA Grand Slam didn’t provide the explosive finale we were hoping for with the wind only briefly kicking in, before dropping again, meaning there were no changes to the men’s and women’s rankings.

Sarah-Quita Offringa (Starboard / NeilPryde / Maui Ultra Fins) extends her incredible unbeaten run on the Women’s PWA Freestyle World Tour to 11 years after winning both events this year to claim her 11th Freestyle world title. The 27-year-old continues to raise the bar for women’s freestyle, and in a year where it was thought she would face her biggest test yet to regain her world title, Offringa has more than risen to the occasion and is still undoubtedly the Queen of Freestyle.
Maaike Huvermann (Starboard / Severne / Maui Ultra Fins) and Oda Johanne (Starboard / Severne / Maui Ultra Fins) have both raised their level again, but even though they threatened Offringa in Portugal, neither could really land a telling blow here to trouble the now 15 time world champion (11 Freestyle & 4 Slalom).
This season there has been almost nothing between Huvermann and Johanne, but it is Huvermann who walks away with a second place to be crowned vice-world champion for the 3rd time in her career, but a coin flip could’ve almost decided that, such was the closeness of their battles.
Arrianne Aukes (Fanatic / Duotone / Maui Ultra Fins) couldn’t trouble the top 3 this time around, but the 31-year-old proved far too strong for the rest of the fleet, which sees her secure 4th place in the overall rankings ahead Johanna Rümenapp (I-99 / Gun Sails / Maui Ultra Fins), who finishes 5th in her debut season.

Årets Oda Johanne’s Windsurf Festival 2018 blir helgen 15.-16. september på Larkollen, Møvik. Sarah-Quita Offringa kommer i år også! Det blir kurs, freestyle show, bruktmarked, windsurfbutikk, demo, utekino lørdag kveld, videoanalyse av jibb og loop på storskjerm m/Sarah-Quita, cafe, grilling og svært sosialt! Vi håper å samle alle windsurfere i Norge denne helgen🤗

PWA World Cup in Portugal – Summary!
What a World Cup in freestyle and slalom!
Great to see the girls ripping so hard! It was perfect to have a spot that offers the best sailing. Small ramps for a bit of jumping also. Happy to land burners, skopus and backloops in the heats and make it to 3 out of 4 finals against my amiga Sarah-Quita.
Looking back at the results I feel like the 2nd place went away in a gust… Losing the first double with 0,15 points by one mistake was hard, but that was a reality. It’s what makes the competition so exciting!
After the 2nd double when I got 2nd I was getting ready for slalom and released all the freestyle focus, just before getting told to do a sail off against Maaike in case we won’t have more wind. We both had one 2nd place each in the two double eliminations.
Fair enough, just not ideal straight after the final. It was not even in my mind that we would do a sail off while still having more wind that day and 3 more days to go. I did not win this one, and Maaike sailed better in that heat to take overall 2nd place.
I’m already thinking about the next event in Fuerteventura that will start in 4 weeks, and I am feeling super motivated! It’s been amazing to be here in Portugal and the event really pushed my limits in both slalom and freestyle! Now I feel like anything is possible!
Congrats to Sarah, Maaike and Arrianne for overall 1st and 2nd and 4th! I’m so happy that we have so many close heats and can show women windsurfers what is possible! We are all here to make it better for the future generation’s and I do think we did a good job!
For freestyle, my results were:
1st single elimination: 2nd place
1st double: 3rd place
2nd single: 2nd place
2nd double: 2nd place
Overall 3rd place.
In slalom, I ended up with a boring 11th place. I learned a lot about 48 knots slalom sailing, and manage to get to half of the winner’s finals and won one loser´s final. I had higher expectations in slalom if we would be racing on bigger gear like 7.8, but in the high wind slalom, my focus was more about getting used to it. I´m really happy with my starts and speed, but I was falling too much in the gybes when I had less pressure. Good to test your self and know what to work on for next year slalom World Tour!
Overall it was the most fun World Cup I ever competed in! Thanks to FeelViana and all the organizers for making this event happen!
I will come back for training and the next year World Cup! Now we will continue our roadtrip searching for more wind!

For the last 3 years, I have organized windsurfing clinics at my favorite place on earth, Jericoacoara, in Brazil together with Jeri250. Last year I had a dedicated loop clinic. It was a great success and the sailors who joined got over the fear and went for their first loops.
As last year, there will be a lot of focus on the loop, but also a clinic where you can learn your first jumps, basic wave riding and get a better stance to sail faster. And of course, learn that tack and plaining gybe and never look back. Jericoacoara is a perfect place to run a clinic as we have wind every single day in October (at least for the last 7 years…)
The clinic will last for 4 days from the 10th – 13th of October, with 2 sessions per day.
Price: 4 days clinic – 500 euros
9 days rental gear/accommodation/transfer from the airport – price starting from 839 euros. (You can choose to book for less/more days).
If you want to join, you only need to book your flights and travel with your suitcase. The rest we will arrange 
=) The place you can stay at (Pousada do Mauricio) is located 100 meters from the beach and you don´t need a car. Just sunglasses, sunscreen and a lycra!

Windsurfing with no wind!
Just a normal day at the beach! God knows how many times I drove to this spot with a windy forecast that never showed up. Sitting at the beach with barely any knots, forced to return the 45-minute drive. Not anymore with a foil in the van =)

It refers to the life of a windsurfer without a coach, manager or any other system that tells you what to do, when to work out, when to book tickets, how to find sponsors and how to make a living. We are our own coaches, managers and time planners. So to get where you want as a windsurfer, you simply need to get your shit done – because a windsurfer’s life is the best life!

Thanks to Tom Deburchgrave for the filming and editing. It was great doing this together in Cape Town during a few sessions on the water.
The video is about my journey from a life of playing handball, studying and living in Norway, to becoming a professional windsurfer traveling the world searching for wind!
As this video goes online now, I really want to thank a few special people who made this life possible, and guided me to follow my heart to live a different life! It started with a motivation speech from Karina Hollekim – one of the most badass women (in a good way) on the planet. Base jumping from the top of mountains and just being awesome traveling the world. After that day I wanted to do something similar. Not jump from cliffs, but to take my windsurfing to the next level and discover the world!
I got really motivated by Martin Haglev who had a windsurfing shop in Oslo. He said: «GO compete Oda, here is the gear you need!» And from there on I have been very lucky to get sponsors from my local area. Stian Vedal in VEMA has been one of the main reasons I can still do what I do! Also a big thanks to Svein Rasmussen and Starboard Windsurfing. It´s great riding for a brand that really appreciates having girls on the team, so thank you giving me the chance to work with you!
