Great weekend – windsurf clinic!

Last weekend I had my windsurfing clinic in Norway together with Håkon.

Great people, sun and we also got a bit of wind. Eikeren was a perfect spot to have the clinic as it’s a small area with shallow water. Cool to see the big progress they made just after two days of training =)

Thanks to Rigmor and my dad for the BBQ help!

Thanks to all of you who took part of it, and see you again on the next clinic, 28th-29th of May!

What we’ve been up to!

This year on Bonaire the wind has been less consistent than last years. Therefor I’ve had a good mix of freestyle, slalom and fitness training. I had some great slalom sessions last weeks training with Amado, Juvannie and Taty Frans. A few days ago we had a fun evening on the water training starts, and as you can see in the movie there is a bit of cheating…Not only me (Taty, Juvannie…) Haha!
Thanks to KUMA for filming the slalomracing in light wind (racing starts at 1:50). Sailing with my Severne Reflex 7.8 and Starboard iSonic 110.

New sponsors and training in the Caribbean

There are some new sponsors that have showed me their support for the upcoming season. VEMA Produkter, WindJeri and SolRX and are all new for the season. Very happy about this support they are giving me so I can windsurf more.

Vema Produkter will be one of my main sponsor this season – I’m greatful for the support they are showing me. Extra cool that they are a local company from where I grew up in Hobøl. Check them out here http://www.vemaprodukter.no

SolRX is a sunscreen originally designed for surfers, triathletes, swimmers and general outdoor fanatics. It’s water resistant, eco-friendly and will not burn your eyes if you sweat. Approved by myself here on Bonaire the last weeks. Great to now use a good brand that works well! Check them out here: http://www.solrx.no/

WindJeri is a nice, relaxed hotel/pousada in Jericoacoara where I always spend my time sailing the months before Christmas. Thanks to Luca for the support this season. http://www.windjeri.it/

So back to where I’m now, in the Caribbean! I arrived and it was fully windy the first days. Spent many hours freestyling and when the wind got lighter I could still plane with my Starboard iSonic 110 slalomboard and Severne Reflex 7.8 slalomsail. Check out a short light wind slalomclip @World of Windsurf facebook page. It really feels like sailing in a pool in this crystal clear blue water! VIDEO LINK:Slalom light wind

The last week I have been slalom racing with Juvannie, Taty Frans, Aron, Baastian and Amado Vrieswijk. Great experience racing against some of the fastest men in the world. World Champion Sarah Offringa also arrived to the island. She helped tuning my gear perfect and BAAAM it became way faster in the light winds. Taty had a GPS and reach 56 km/h, Amado 55 and I 49,7 km/h on my 110 iSonic and 7.8. Not too bad in the light winds, but it can always be better! Looks like it will be many more days of slalom and train at the gym HFC Bonaire as the wind is pretty light for freestyle at the moment. After I started with slalom I’m getting many more hours on the water every year and I can still enjoy and train in extreme light wind conditions – bonus!

The last week of freestylesailing I’ve been using the  Starboard Flare prototype for 2018 and the 2017 Severne freek prototypes. The boardshape and sails are a beast! I can only say that I loved them and for sure the future looks bright with probably the best freestyle gear on the market!

I will have my windsurf clinic going on here in April. There are still space left if you want to join here on Bonaire or the one in Fuerteventura or Brazil (Jericoacoara). For more info email: odajohanne@hotmail.com

See you on the water!

Join my windsurfing clinics!

Clinics-2016

Windsurf clinics with PWA sailor Oda Johanne. Learn to gybe, tack, waterstart, loop or take your freestyle skills to the next level. Four days of sailing, coaching and videotraining.

Locations and dates:

March 3rd-6th and April 4th-7th
Bonaire in the Caribbean. This place is one of the easiest places to improve your windsurfing with the crystal clear blue and shallow water. Steady wind and warm temperatures make Bonaire a world class windsurfing place where some of the best windsurfers in the world were born.

July 14th-17th
Fuerteventura is famous for great wind in the summer months. Easy to get here from most European countries. The wind is strong and you will for sure get many hours on the water on this island. Easy to fly to Gran Canaria and take a short flight or the ferry over to Fuerteventura.

November 10th-13th
Jericoacoara in Brazil is a very beautiful place to windsurf. During the months before Christmas it’s blowing strong wind every single day. The place is perfect to also get introduced to waveriding. The waves are kind and breaking slow. Also a very good spot to improve jumping. In the morning the wind is less strong and during low tide the waves are very small making it easier to train the basics moves as tacks, waterstarts and gybes. Jericoacoara is also very good for Stand Up Paddle (SUP) and surfing with a longboard. The lifestyle in Jeri is also very unique.

New video: SAILING IN PARADISE

Join me on a trip to Jericoacoara, a true paradise in Brazil! Here I was sailing with the local hero Edvan de Souza. Edvan is the only guy in the world that can jump that high on the small waves in Jericoacoara. He has been sailing here everyday since he was 12 years old. Watch the video and stay with us in this paradise for 3 minutes.

Update from Brazil!

From the mid of October I spent my 2 month winter training in Jericoacoara, Brazil. It’s always great to come back to Jeri as it’s like my 2nd home. The first weeks were awesome. Windsurf, surf, acai and forro all day long. After 2,5 weeks of great sailing I was a bit unlucky and crashed hard trying a ponch. I twisted my knee and couldn’t windsurf for the next three weeks. I went to Fortaleza to take X-rays and MRI. The photos showed that I had a small rift in the meniscus and a muscle around the knee. It was actually not that bad news. A big thank to my friends Tom Soltysiak and windsurf-doctor Eva Oude Ophuis for helping me out of the water. And to the guys who carried me all the way home from the beach.

During the weeks off the water I trained TRX rehab everyday, filmed my friends windsurfing and watched the Wind Jeri wave and freestyle contest. The action was great to see from the beach with top riders in the men and women disciplines.

Arrianne Aukes and I had our windsurfing clinic in November. Thanks to everyone who took part of it. Great to see how much you all improved during those four days.

The last three weeks of my trip I was windsurfing every day again. Regular ducking moves on starboard tack seemed to be impossible for my knee, so I decided to learn other regular stance moves that didn’t disturb my knee. I was pretty happy just to be back on the water sailing around instead of facing the TRX exercise ropes again. Thanks to my boyfriend for being the best fysio. With his help I was back on the water in record time!
