New video and windsurfing in Norway

I arrived back home from Bonaire 3-4 weeks ago. My last weeks there were so good, with a lot of sailing in strong wind. Happy to land all the moves I planned to learn on this trip. I just uploaded a clip from my last sessions there. Mainly filmed by KUMA movie – thanks!

Soon the 2nd episode of our “Journals of an Endless Summer” with Arrianne Aukes, Maeli Cherel and me will be online. Maeli Cherel is the one who is editing the 2nd episode, so pretty excited to see it soon. If you missed the first one, watch it here:

Back home I have to say that life in Norway isn’t like life in Bonaire. At home I actually have to wear a watch to not miss out on things. No time to just live after the sun anymore. A week after I arrived back home I had a 15 minutes performance on the stage in Askim Culture House to talk about my adventures with windsurfing. It was for youth and a bit older people. Even my grandmother came. Maybe she got inspired to start with freestyle too?

Last weeks I’ve been working as much as possible and at the same time trying to windsurf as much as possible. It hasn’t been as windy as I was hoping for, but when it’s been wind I’ve been there. Fortunately I have some really cool and spontaneous friends. One of them is Ruben. One day we decided to drive all the way to to the south, Lista. In total we spent 12 hours driving for a 4 hour evening session. Perfect conditions for our Freek 4.8. And at the end we could have been on 4.0, but as lazy as I am (Ruben as well), we stayed with 4.8 and we were flying around having such a fun time. When it became darker and full moon we drove back towards Oslo during night. At 6 in the morning we were almost back home. On our way I spoke with my friend Dag, who where on his way to a spot called Bliksenkilen. So Ruben dropped me off along the road and Dag picked me up with all my gear, and there we were already on our way for a new session. I was a bit tired after driving the whole night, but woke up as soon as I got the cold water in my face. Have a look at the pics from Lista:

Even on the 17th of May (the Norwegian National day) we had some wind. I jumped out of my “bunad” (Norwegian National suit)  into my new O’neill Psycho wetsuit. Thanks to O’neill for helping me out with new wetsuit after someone stole all my old ones while I was in Bonaire.

Last weeks it looks like the media has been interested in windsurfing. Even Afterposten, which is the biggest newspaper in Norway, put a double page up with windsurfing. See the photos here and links below:

New web episode is online: “Journals of an Endless Summer”

After my first two weeks on Bonaire I got company of my good windsurfing friends Arrianne Aukes and Maeli Cherel. We were such a dreamteam living and spending 24 hours everyday together. Was really sad when they left after one month. It should be illegal to have so much fun as we had on and off the water. We were lucky with the wind as we could sail almost everyday, driving scooters and pretty much enjoying the Carribbean life. We filmed for our new web episodes called “Journals of an Endless Summer”. Hope you will like it! Watch the first episode now on the link below!

B O N A I R E!

Finally back in the Carribbean! Already spent more than a week here. Scored some nice 5.2 sessions and three very good 4.8 days. Sailing here is the best as learning new moves is easier with the flatwater and nice chop at Sorobon beach. Also a great feeling sailing in crystal clear water.

Really nice to be back and see friends from last year. And rumour has it that my windsurfingfriends Arrianne Aukes and Maeli are on their way to this windy island in a few days. Going to be alot of fun with more girls freestyling, and the forcast looks good.

A few days ago there was a “best trick” competition. Girls and boys all mixed. It got filmed, and will be put online so people can vote for the winner. Was such a nice time and everybody was on fire. Of course I don’t have a chance against the best guys like world champion Kiri Thode and all those guys, but managed to land a lot of moves I’ve been training last days. At least it was good training and everybody had so much fun.

Check out a short clip from a morning session:

Back on the water!

After spending seven weeks off the water here in Norway, the wind and the warm temperatures (4 degrees) were finally back! I was getting crazy not sailing for such a long time. Doesn’t make it easier when a big amount of my windsurfing friends constantly uploaded photos sailing in South Africa, Australia, Bonaire and Venezuela…

Sunday was pretty cool. I drove to my homespot Ørekroken, which is the best spot in the world. I was sailing my brand new Starboard Flare 91 liter and the Severne Freek 4.4. Together with a 5/3 wetsuit I was actually sweating in the 4 degrees. The wind was strong and I got some nice small waves/chop who helped me to land my first proper shaka!

In a few hours I’m flying to Bonaire for a new two month trip. Hopefully the windseason there will be as good as last year.

Interview on the norwegian news channel NRK

Not often (maybe never happened) that freestyle windsurfing makes it into the TV news in Norway. It’s an interview with some actionclips from my last windsurfingtrip to Brazil. Back home to the storms!

I have already spent some weeks in Norway now. Due to the “warm winter” we had here with 7 degrees, zero snow and alot of wind, we had some amazing sessions at my homespot Ørekroken during December. The best day was New Years Eve, with gusts up to 40 knots. Sailing here is so much fun when the wind is strong. I tested my new SOLOSHOT, which is a tripod for your camera that films you automatically. Check it out on http://www.yolonorway.no for more info. Really cool and good for training new moves when you are sailing alone.

New Years Eve

I’m already making new plans for the new windsurfing season and I’m hopeing to compete in all the PWA freestyle worldcups this season. Can’t wait to go on my next trip again with new adventures, alot of sailing, meeting new people and compete again.

The norwegian Smaalenene newspaper put this on the frontpage last week. Cool that windsurfing gets some attention!

Jericoacoara

This is my third time here in Brazil, and already six weeks spent in this paradise. Luckily there’s almost two months left, but I know it will feel too short as well!

Wave sailing

Wave sailing

The trip has been epic from day one. I arrived just in time to participate in the Jeri Sport Festival wave competition. Was a lot of fun and I managed to win. The waves were really small but the wind was good.

I’ve been on the water every single day on my new Severne Freek 4.0 and 4.4 and my Starboard Flare 91 liter and Evo 76. Besides windsurfing we have had some nice morning surf sessions with surfboards and stand up paddle.

Last week I tried a new move and my board got stuck in the water which was not so nice for my foot!

I took 2 days off the water, and then it was time for a new wave competition here; Circuito Jeri de Windsurf. It was a great event with 12 girls competing and really well organized. With my good friend Arrianne Aukes in town, I knew it would be really hard. On Friday we sailed the single elimination, and I won this one that made it easier for me in the double on Saturday. After sailing really close heats against Arrianne in the finals, I was the lucky winner.

I hope rest of my stay will be just as good as the first weeks with a lot of sailing, eating acai every day and sleeping in the hammock. Dancing forró , samba and learning some Portuguese. I have met so many amazing and crazy people which also make my stay here even more fun.

PWA worldcup in Brouwersdam!

I just got back from the PWA competition i Holland. It was a lot of fun with 16 girls competing from all over the world. We managed to run 2 single and 1 double elimination. The wind was up and down between 13-40 knots the whole week. I used all my sails, and spent a lot of time rigging as the wind was shifting between 5.2 and 4.0 each 10 minutes. In the double I won 4 heats in a row, and lost the 5th against Olya Raskina who ended up on a 4th place. Was a pretty hectic day with just 10 minutes break between the heats, and I was always using different sails in each heat. Was good training in changing the boom in a record time. At the end I ended up on 5th place. Big congrats to Sara-Quita as number one and World Champion, my good friend Arrianne who became 2nd, sailing some siiick heats, and Yoli and Olya for 3rd and 4th place.
Video of the PWA girls:

After the competition I spent a few more days in Holland as the forecast looked amazing. Sailed some super nice spots, with my friend Arrianne and “caddy Danny”, which I never really believed would exist! Spots with 2 km superflat water on both tacks. Check out a short moveclip on the link below:
